This split the bill calculator is for groups who ordered different things and don't want to divide the total evenly. Add the people at the table, enter each item with its price, and tap the names of whoever shared it. Tax and tip are added in proportion to what each person's items cost, so the person who had a salad doesn't cover someone else's steak.
Everything runs in your browser. Your names, items and prices are saved only on this device in local storage, and nothing is uploaded to a server. When the split looks right, copy a text summary, download it as a .txt file, or print it. It's an estimate rounded to the cent, so check it against your receipt.
How to use it
- Under “Who's at the table?”, type a name and press “Add”. Repeat for everyone splitting the bill.
- Under “What did you order?”, enter an item name and price, then press “Add item”. New items start shared by everyone.
- Tap the names under each item to change who shared it. Use “Everyone” or “Clear” to select or deselect the whole group at once.
- In “Tax & tip”, enter tax as a % or a fixed amount, then choose a tip preset such as “18%” or type your own. Pick a currency symbol if you need one.
- Check “Who owes what” for each person's items, tax, tip and total.
- Press “Copy summary”, “Download .txt” or “Print or save PDF” to share the result.
What it does
- Assign each item to any mix of people, with color-coded name buttons and “Everyone” / “Clear” shortcuts.
- Shared items are divided evenly among the people who shared them, and each item shows how many ways it is split.
- Tax and tip can each be entered as a percentage or a fixed amount, with tip presets of “No tip”, 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% and 25%.
- A switch lets you work out the tip on the pre-tax subtotal or on the subtotal plus tax.
- Tax and tip are shared in proportion to each person's items, and the cents are allocated so the shares add up exactly to the bill total.
- A warning appears when an item has nobody assigned, so you can see what isn't counted yet.
- Choose a currency symbol from a list that includes $, €, £, ¥, ₹, ₩, A$, C$, R$, kr and CHF.
- Export the result with “Copy summary”, “Download .txt” or “Print or save PDF”, and use “Try an example” to see a sample bill.

Questions
Is this split the bill calculator free?
Yes, it's free to use. There's no account to create, and you can add as many people and items as you need.
Where is my bill data stored?
Your people, items and settings are saved in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and “Start over” removes the people and items from this device.
How do I save or share the result?
In the “Who owes what” panel, use “Copy summary” to paste the split into a chat, “Download .txt” to save a text file, or “Print or save PDF” to print it or save it as a PDF.
How are tax and tip split between people?
Both are divided in proportion to the cost of each person's items. A person whose items make up a larger share of the subtotal pays a larger share of the tax and tip.
What happens to an item nobody is assigned to?
It isn't counted in anyone's total or in the tax and tip. The calculator shows a warning naming the item so you can tap a name to assign it.
